The team here at HHH Architects would like to congratulate Juan Camacho, one of our Graduates of Architecture, for the award he won at this year’s Awards for Planning Excellence.

Juan competed in the Minister’s Town Planning Prizes section of the event. A winner and runner-up is chosen from each participating university, and the Bond University prize went to Juan for his project ‘Green Infrastructure Network: Improving city-region sustainability values through Biophillic urban design approaches’.

About the Awards

Presented annually, the Minister’s Town Planning Prizes consist of $500 prizes for each winner, with a $200 prize and Certificate of Commendation presented to a runner-up from each university.

This year’s awards took place on May 26th at Parliament House is Brisbane. Seven universities took part, including Griffith, UQ, and QUT.

The primary purpose of the event is showcasing the innovation and talent of local students who are in their final year of planning and architecture degrees. It is a particularly useful event for local governments, which may gain an insight into key town planning factors that affect their areas.

About Juan

Juan completed his Master of Urban Planning and Design at Bond after undertaking his Bachelor of Architecture at Norwich University, Vermont. His passion for sustainable design is certainly reflected in his project’s concept, and winning the prize is a testament to his dedication and enthusiasm for innovative and green design strategies (on both an architectural and urban scale).

Juan’s belief in using architecture as a tool to promote sustainability inspired and directed his research for this project.

This was not his first awards experience though. In 2013, Juan took part in Washington DC’s Solar Decathlon and was also a finalist at the PIA Young Planners Innovation Showcase. He has participated in several other competitions and events as well.

Once again, from everyone at HHH, well done to Juan for his excellent accomplishment. We’re proud to have him on the team and look forward to the many fantastic projects he will work on in the future. If you’d like your architectural project to be one of them, please contact our friendly and dedicated team.
