This tired 1900’s pub was transformed into a modern back packer’s hostel, featuring new bar and bistro, modern accommodation upstairs with renovated terrace for an afternoon drink. The Coolangatta Sands Hotel, affectionately known as “the Sands”, is located in the heart of Coolangatta and only a block from the beach. This tired but historic pub has been locally adored since 1911 and was overdue for a transformation. The brief was to create a modern backpackers hostel offering safe, modern and affordable accommodation with a range of facilities. The Hotel also features a new bar and bistro, functions and gaming space and renovated terrace area. This renovation has also encouraged a new young and vibrant generation to enjoy a revitalised landmark destination located in Coolangatta.
